Eric Hobsbawm - RIP

Eric Hobsbawm, one of the leading historians of the 20th century, has died,

A lifelong Marxist whose work influenced a great many political figures and fellow historians. He was a giant in his field; his "Age of" four-volume history of the 19th and 20th centuries are exemplary. For anyone who has an interest in modern history, then his four volumed "Age of" works are a must-read! Covering many eras of the modern world; from Revolution, to Empire, to Capitalism and to War, they are widely viewed as a very well informed & detailed schism of the everchanging world we live in.

He may have gathered criticism at times for his continuing membership of the British Communist Party, but he was well respected across the political spectrum. He didn't just limit himself to one specific viewpoint (historical Marxism) and was even greatly involved in the invention of "New Labour" in the late 80's/90's. One of the 20th century literary greats. RIP.
